Frozen rosé, Victorian costuming and cool art beat the heat at "Sunday in theArt"
With the lively Divisi Strings performing everything from Lady Gaga to Mozart and a contingent of cute young things in a mix of either Victorian costuming or summer frocks, "Sunday in the Art" provided a rare tableau for midday in Memorial Park.
The VIP celebration/fundraiser for the Bayou City Art Festival moved from its traditional evening slot to 11 a.m. and evolved around Georges Seurat's iconic painting A Sunday on La Grande Jatte. Thus, the profusion of bustled skirts, parasols, velvet jackets and top hats that were favored by this artful crowd. Never mind the heat and humidity. Echoing a the park theme, the party tent was decorated in bountiful bouquets of spring flowers.
Chaired by Beth Bryant and Sean Boyd, the event featured artworks contributed by more than 50 artists with top ticket purchasers garnering opportunities to take home their favorite.
From 11 to 2, as many as 300 art lovers sashayed through the party scene savoring brunch fare and quenching their thirst with all manner of libations including the refreshing Frozen Rosé (half the calories of margaritas according to the website and available at H-E-B and Central Market. Yum.)
Costumed characters from Red Door Productions and J&D Entertainment kept the party spirits elevated. Young dancers in period costumes graced the scene while the incredible "grape vine" woman, towering overhead on stilts, moved in slow motion and silence through the tent.
In the mix of festival artists, party committee members and ticket purchasers were Ashley Foret, James Jones, Miriam Habib, Nicola Parente, Marcus Carter, Ruchi Mukherjee, Victoria Beard, Michael Piana, Nicole Brende, Cortney Cole, Steve Guthrie, Jon Halbur and Blake Torres.
