feeling vibrant at Memorial Park
Houston restaurant known for gluten-free eats adds new location in Memorial Park
One of Houston’s most prominent healthy eating restaurants has added a second location. Vibrant is now open in Memorial Park.
Located within the park’s Running Complex, the new location serves Vibrant’s scratch-made menu of items that are all gluten-free, dairy-free, white sugar-free, and non-GMO. Open daily from 7 am to 8 pm (subject to changes in park hours), the menu includes a range of dishes such as bone broth, rice bowls, and breakfast tacos. The beverage program includes a full range of coffee and espresso options as well as natural wines.
Vibrant’s selection of grab-and-go breads and pastries will be available along with a selection of retail items. Adding the capacity to expand its bakery program was a major reason Vibrant underwent extensive renovations in 2022.
Schaum Architects designed the location to fit the park’s natural surroundings. Vibrant founder Kelly Barnhart worked with the firm on some of the interior details.
Opened in November 2023, the Running Complex is located to the southwest of the land bridge that also debuted last year. The complex serves as a gateway to the park’s Bayou Wilds trail and also features a 400-meter, five-land track. An adjacent plaza will be available for private event rentals in the near future.
Memorial Park visitors have a few different food options. In addition to Vibrant, they may dine at locally-owned burger favorite Becks Prime’s outpost at the golf course or patronize a rotating selection of food trucks at Live Oak Court.
Opening the Running Complex and adding Vibrant are two of the latest developments in Memorial Park’s transformative Ten-Year Plan. Part of an effort to make Memorial Park one of the country’s best parks, projects in the plan include the land bridge — which offered people and wildlife safe passage over Memorial Drive — and the 100-acre Eastern Glades section that opened in 2020.
“Vibrant introduces a new gathering space at Memorial Park, offering the community a place to enjoy nourishing, sustainable food amidst the Park's natural beauty,” Shellye Arnold, president and CEO of Memorial Park Conservancy, said in a statement. “The café's opening and the broader expansion of dining and recreational options in the Park reflect our ongoing commitment to meet the diverse needs of all Houstonians.”
