The finest pecan pie anywhere: Texas' new official state pie is best enjoyed at these restaurants
While there are pressing matters of water rights and school funding on the table during the Texas Legislature's 83rd session, lawmakers opted to pass a more light-hearted measure: HCR No. 53, introduced by Rep. Marsha Farney (R), designated Pecan Pie as the official State Pie of Texas.
Although frivolous, we can't disagree with the legislation's wording. "WHEREAS, Though there are many ways to enjoy pecans, it is practically a given among Texans that they belong, first and foremost, in a pie," it begins.
"Texans generally agree on two things: Texas pecan pies are, hands down, the best, especially when made with Texas pecans by a Texan, and secondly, whether served hot or cold, with a scoop of ice cream or without, pecan pie is indeed the perfect ending to any meal."
Here are a few of our favorite places to satisfy a craving:
Goode Company: The Brazos Bottom Pecan Pie is a family recipe baked into ooey, gooey goodness.
House of Pies: Whether you choose the Texas Pecan Pie or the Texas Pecan Fudge Pie, this one is the picture of perfection and best served à la mode.
Flying Saucer Pie Company: The oldest pie shop in Houston does one thing, and one thing only: Baked pies. So of course they do it well.
Mighty Sweet Mini Pies: With its flaky crust and moist filling, the Pecan Pie is a staple on the new pint-sized shop's menu. Great to share . . . or not to share.
Revival Market: We couldn't help but grab a sticky slice to enjoy with lunch on the cafe's patio last weekend. A perfect accompaniment to a cold brew coffee.
