Hermès reopens after "smash-and-grab" burglary; see the surveillance video ofthe crime
The Hermès of Paris boutique in BLVD. Place re-opened Saturday morning, three days after a team of burglars smashed the windows and pried open the front door, taking thousands of dollars of merchandise.
On Saturday afternoon the store was doing a brisk business, with a number of customers gathered around a large display of iconic Hermès scarves. The store looked well-stocked, though not as full of merchandise as before the burglary took place early Wednesday morning. Only about six Hermès handbags were on display.
The assistant manager on duty declined a request for comment.
Survellience video obtained by Channel 13 shows a number of thieves who pulled up in front of the store on 1800 Post Oak Blvd. in a grey sedan and a white SUV, both with a covered license plates. With their faces covered, they jumped out of the vehicles with pick-axes and crowbars and quickly broke into the store. Several minutes later they ran out of the store with merchandise and both vehicles took off.
Since the theft, a crew has worked to replace the glass and repair the door, which had been imported from France when the store moved into its new location, only a few yards from its previous store, several years ago.
