Interior design trends to hate: Save yourself from shag & 'artful' nude pics ofyourself
The year 2010 has embraced a number of interior design trends, some of them the good kind of trendy (turquoise), some of them tired (antlers) and some of them obnoxious (pictures of yourself in your own house). Here are five interior design trends I loathe and hope to never see again.
Antlers
What, what, what are these for? The first time I saw them — unattached to the head from whence they came and adorning an unsuspecting wall — I thought they were sort of different. The 500th time I saw them, I thought they were a tad overdone.
If I see them a 501st time, I swear I'll impale myself on one.
Intentional Clutter
You have four walls, and likely more than four rooms. Spread your wall hangings among them, rather than affronting visitors with a wall so confounding that they are so at a loss for where to look they have no choice but to turn around.
Shag Carpet
The least favorite of my retro comebacks, it's the inefficiency of the trend that gets me. Ever tried to vacuum shag? It goes a lot like this.
Oversize Pictures/Portraits of Yourself
Your guests probably know who lives there, if you invited them. There is no need to remind them with oversized portraits of yourself — especially nude ones.
Overdone Animal Print
What's cool in a hotel might not translate to your bathroom. Go easy on the skins.
Tell us — what interior design trends are you eager to see go? Do you love any that I loathe?
