Andrew Gn's "hangover" brunch draws Houston crowd ready to shop
PARIS — The invitation to Andrew Gn's "hangover" brunch seemed to be set for a civilized time at 1 in the afternoon. But, with Houstonians having partied late into the night at the spectacular Liaisons au Louvre dinner and after-party that stretched into 6 that morning, the designer didn't mind that guests straggled in a little late.
Gn welcomed "the Houston girls" along with a few guys to his well-appointed atelier on the rue du Temple for champagne and a brunch featuring Asian delicacies. Located in an 18-century townhouse with soaring ceilings, Murano glass chandeliers and lacquered paneled walls, the salon has a private courtyard where clients can enter without attracting attention.
Gn, whose recent clients have included Hillary Clinton, French first lady Valerie Trierweiler and actress Emma Stone, is known for designs with an artful flair.
The slower-than-usual arrivals gave those already there plenty of time to sample the artful hors d'ourves that waiters passed on trays — a bite-size piece of tuna on an individual rose petal and the truffle macarons couldn't be resisted — and try on outfits from Gn's fall collection.
Gn, whose recent clients have included Hillary Clinton, French first lady Valerie Trierweiler and actress Emma Stone, is known for designs with an artful flair. For his fall 2013 collection, he looked to the Art Nouveau movement, drawing inspiration from Vienna’s Secessionist and London’s Arts and Crafts. The work of Austrian artist Koloman Moser and English illustrator Aubrey Beardsley was referenced in swirly-formed black velvet appliqués (one pattern looks like the Eiffel tower to me), quilted motifs, jet bead embellishments and gold mosiacs.
Before brunch began, Gn thanked everyone for coming and praised Tootsies owner Mickey Rosmarin, who is a close friend. The convivial atmosphere made for some great shopping as Diane Lokey Farb, Melissa Mithoff, Hallie Vanderhider and Valerie Cooper, a San Diego philanthropist who was befriended by the Houston crowd, placed special orders.
Also taking in the scene were Becca Cason Thrash, Joyce Echols, Sallymoon Benz, Ann Wolf and Fady Armanious, who was the last to slip in.
