Thanks to bars and dance halls, Houston ranks among top 10 party towns in the country
If variety is the spice of life and the life of the party, the chamber of commerce might want to add another plus to its stream of H-Town bravado. Houston, it seems, ranks among the top 10 best places to party in the country.
That according to Wanderu, a booking agency for train and bus travel, which surveyed the Yelp API and added up the number of grown-up entertainment venues to determine the cities with the most options, which Wanderu translated into the best party towns.
With 1,256 bars, 123 dance clubs, 17 beer gardens, eight country dance halls, 13 jazz and blues venues, 63 karaoke bars, 98 music venues, three piano bars and 52 pool halls, Houston was ranked by the website as the sixth best party hub in the nation.
Claiming the number one spot, based on variety of options, was New York City, followed by Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego and then Houston. Dallas came in at number nine while Austin was ranked twelfth.
"The race for the top spot was tough and, as expected, it came down to the age-old question of what city is better, New York or Los Angeles," according to the Wanderu. "While LA came out as the top destination for dance lovers, karaoke enthusiasts, live music fans and pool shooters, NYC’s almost-double number of bars gave it a significant boost, making it the top party hub in the United States."
