Oscar Poll
Is Leto a lock for Best Supporting Actor? Vote now for a chance to win a year's free movie pass
In the Oscar race for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Jared Leto stands out his portrayal of a graceful, hard-bargaining transexual afflicted with AIDS in Dallas Buyers Club. Leto won just about every award leading up to the announcement of the Academy Award nominations last month and is believed to be a sure thing when the Oscars are handed out on March 2.
Leto has the kind of backstory Oscar voters love. He starred in the beloved '90s teen ansgt television series (My So-Called Life) and he's been away from movies for six years as he toured with his band, 30 Seconds to Mars.
But is Leto a lock for an Oscar?
While the odds are on his side, Leto has some formidable competition from Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips), Bradley Cooper (American Hustle), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street), and Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave).
