What to wear during Formula 1 weekend at Austin's Circuit of The Americas
So you've bought your tickets and you're ready to head to the track at Circuit of The Americas for the Formula 1 Pirelli 2018 United States Grand Prix, October 19-21. But what on earth do you wear?
Between how to plan your outfits to what gear to take home, we've got your sartorial side covered.
Tip 1: Don't overdo it
Okay, admittedly there's a chance to hobnob with some jetsetters if you're out and about during F1 weekend. But think of this as your opportunity to master the art of sophisticated layering. Texas weather is unpredictable so make sure you have options, even if they're on your back (be warned: large bags and selfie sticks aren't permitted inside the arena).
Tip 2: Hello, moto
Is there really anything more appropriate to wear track-side than a moto jacket? Hit up some of Austin's best boutiques (such as Estilo, By George, and more) for a statement piece that will have you standing out from the crowd.
Tip 3: Work up
As the race events intensify, so should your outfits. The qualifying day should start simple, and the closing day events will be your true time to shine with a jumpsuit or a cool-yet-casual look, that is. No ballgowns or stilettos required — it is still Austin, after all.
Tip 4: Keep comfortable and carry on
Sure, the gals from Grease pulled off that whole "high heels for a street race" look, but this isn't the time to emulate them. You may just be a spectator, but unless you've opted for a bleacher pass, you’ll likely be on your feet quite a bit. Keep them happy with comfortable shoes, and don't forget your sunscreen (but keep in mind that aerosol cans aren't allowed).
Tip 5: Keep colors in mind
The event's official colors are red, yellow, black, and white, so plan your outfit coordination accordingly to make sure you don't clash. Metallics are the new neutral here, so don't be afraid of a shiny gold accent.
Tip 6: Officially styling
If you want to be an official fan, load up on merchandise at the races, including official logo polos, hoodies, caps, and more. There's even something for the mini contingent among you.
There you have it, sports fans. Gear up and get ready for race day, because the F1 weekend is almost here. Read up on what else you need to know before October 19-21 here, including the lowdown on concerts from Britney Spears and Bruno Mars, and get your tickets here.
