Look, no ticket, ma!
Who needs paper to fly? Trash the boarding pass this Earth Day on Continental &United
Can you sacrifice your travel safety net for the good of the planet? Continental and United Airlines are hoping you'll answer that question in the affirmative this Earth Day.
For each traveler that opts to use a mobile (paperless) boarding on Friday, the merged airlines will donate $1 — up to $50,000 in total — to Conservation International's Protect an Acre program, dedicated to thwart tropical deforestation.
And if you happen use the mobile boarding pass via the Continental app (United doesn't have one), the mega-airline will double the donation to $2.
We know it's somewhat daunting to walk up to the security area, sans tangible boarding pass in hand, expecting that a phone shoved in a TSA agents's face will permit you access to your flight. We hear that.
But rest assured, we used the feature on a United flight last week, and yes, choosing to use a mobile boarding pass and then gesturing at the TSA security agent with your iPhone is, indeed, the ticket.
Does using a mobile boarding pass make you too nervous? Or can you shun the paper for the good of the earth for one day?
