Singing for his date? Dynamo Kofi Sarkodie brings royal blood, a killer smile &a showman's touch
Want to get up close and personal with your favorite Houston Dynamo player? It's easier than you think.
All it takes is showing up at Drink Houston on April 30th for Cruz'in for A Cure, a fundraiser and party organized by Dynamo player Danny Cruz to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Inspired by a young cancer patient who became his friend, Cruz hopes to raise $30,000 for LLS.
Cruz isn't trying to accomplish that in some boring old way though. Cruz'in for a Cure centers on a bachelor auction of 11 Dynamo hotties.
Who should you bid on? Let CultureMap's dating personality quiz be your guide.
Defender Kofi Sarkodie has a slightly higher profile than some of the other rookies on the team, partly because of a New York Times blog that outed him as the grandson of Ghanaian tribal royalty. But it's not just his bloodline that makes Sarkodie a prince — he's got a megawatt smile, a gregarious personality, and he was even the valedictorian of his high school.
He took some time to answer the pressing questions for CultureMap in anticipation of the big auction.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Sarah's appraisal: $3,600
Oh, that smile! I die. And I like the fact that he's got an intellectual side, too — he sounds like a classic Renaissance man and as far from the "dumb jock" stereotype as you can get. However — not to come off like a lush who can't have any non-alcoholic fun — let's just say I'd add $1,000 to that figure next year when Kofi turns 21.
Caroline's appraisal: $4,000
I see Sarah's concern, but I figure it's all the more reason to stay in. Movie night!
Longtime sports writer Chris Baldwin's appraisal: $3200
If it's possible to be achieve one-name status as a rookie in Major League Indoor Soccer, Kofi is already almost there. This while playing only one game so far. Just wait till Kofi becomes a regular. Yes, this attacking defenseman is mostly potential at this point, but it's potential with plenty of pedigree.
And we're not talking about the royal kind. Remember that Kentucky basketball team that had five players drafted in the first round? Kofi played on the college soccer version of that feat. Kofi was one of five Akron players drafted in the first eight picks of the MLS Super Draft. Unlike John Calipari's Wildcats, those talented Zips actually won a national championship too.
Want to debate the role of amateur athletics in America at your dinner? Kofi's the Dynamo with the academic cred (he's the only two-time Academic All-American ever at Akron and carried a 3.96 GPA in college) to do it. Want some mad soccer dribbling tips? Kofi can answer those questions too.
Besides, it's now everyone's responsibility to try and stop Sarah from getting him drunk.
