Breaking news: Local TV news star's dream wedding shuts down newsrooms as anchors party hard
With Channel 11 KHOU meteorologist Chita Johnson conjuring a beautiful evening in tandem with meteorologists Frank Billingsley of KPRC and Casey Curry of KTRK, you couldn't expect less than climate perfection for the wedding of Channel 11 news ace Courtney Zubowski and Dr. Eric Haas.
In fact, according to friends and family, it was perfection on every level when the two were wed at The Corinthian before more than 300 guests. The bride was a stunner in her gown by Lazaro gown that she chose from her childhood friend Ronit Levy's Ivory Bridal.
"Good thing there wasn't major breaking news Saturday night, because it seems like every television reporter in town was attending the wedding."
The mother of the bride, Randi Zubowski, was credited with the glowing evening that featured floral designs by David Brown (think shades lilac and thousands of crystals), seated dinner by Jackson and Co. and dancing to the sounds of Scott Gertner. Late into the night, the catering team served silver dollar pancakes to fuel the guests' trip home.
Guests came from 34 cities in 13 states to celebrate with an entire weekend of festivities. The partying began with a Friday night rehearsal dinner for 160 at Hotel Zaza and concluded with a post-wedding brunch on Sunday at ZaZa. The bride and groom then headed off to a honeymoon on St. Lucia in the Caribbean.
Among the news types joining in were bridesmaid Miya Shay of Channel 13 and house party member Katie McCall of Channel 13. The Channel 11 team included Lily Jang, Katherine Whaley, Len Cannon, Jeremy Desel, Rucks Russell and Jeremy Rogalski. Add to the guest list KHOU GM Susan McEldoon and husband Nick Smeloff and news director Philip Bruce with wife Laurel Kane.
As Shay emailed on Monday, "Good thing there wasn't major breaking news Saturday night, because it seems like every television reporter in town was attending the wedding."
