Stylish Montrose lounge lures digital nomads with new coffee shop and cafe
Houstonians know The Flat for the immaculate music collection curated by its owner, the legendary DJ Sun (Andre Sam-Sin). While Montrose residents and visitors have been dancing at the stylish lounge into the wee hours for years, they’ll soon have a reason to be there during the day, too.
Beginning November 18, The Flat will add a coffee shop and cafe to its offerings with Sunny Coffee at The Flat. Open daily beginning at 11 am, Sunday Coffee at The Flat will feature brews by local roaster Crusier Coffee paired with a limited food menu.
“The Flat has always been a place where friends and neighbors can come together, and with our new expanded hours, coffee program, and chef partners, we're bringing a rare mix of coffee, music, and culinary options to our community," DJ Sun said in a statement. "We're not just offering coffee; we're offering an inviting space that complements our commitment to showcasing the best of Houston and fostering connections among our patrons.”
Sunny Coffee will foster those connections by opening The Flat’s midcentury modern space to community members, digital nomads, and remote workers. Customers will have the option of gathering on one of the space’s couches or taking advantage of fall’s mild temperatures by getting some work done on the patio. Of course, the soundtrack will be eclectic, drawing from The Flat’s music collection as well as hosting occasional guest performances by local DJs and musicians.
Coffee fans will find a full range of espresso drinks, along with pour overs, specialty drinks, and cold brew. Those looking to celebrate the end of the work day may opt for an espresso martini. Food options include pastries and empanadas from Cucharita, the bakery and cafe from Cuchara chef-owner Ana Beaven, and a rotating roster of food trucks.
Sunny Coffee will celebrate its grand opening on November 18 with a full day of performances by local DJs, including Sabinin, DJ Goodfat, Malcolm Bravo, Morgan Morgan, Bad.Idea, Jordy, ERA, and, of course, DJ Sun.
Montrose residents in search of a properly brewed latte have no shortage of options. Those near The Flat include Blacksmith, Campesino Coffee House, and La La Land Kind Cafe’s location at the Montrose Collective mixed-use development. Refuge, Anvil’s companion cocktail bar, added a daytime coffee service this summer that seems relatively similar to DJ Sun’s aspirations for Sunny Coffee.
