Cock blocked: Restaurant crime wave continues with stolen rooster statue — fourmen lift the treasure
Pilsner glasses, extra fortune cookies, secret recipes, bees: You never know what someone could be willing to steal from a restaurant. With the news of a break-in at Plonk early Tuesday morning, another restaurateur contacted CultureMap to describe his own brush with crime.
Arturo Boada of Arturo Boada Cuisine says a few weeks ago thieves stole the red rooster statue that sat near the restaurant entrance. The 32-inch cock was made of a solid metal cast and weighed at least 300 pounds according to general manager Camilo Boada.
"He was a center of entertainment for all the kids and youngsters as they will come outside to pet him and often got on him and played. We never put him inside the restaurant, he was way too heavy to move him every night, so he slept outside," Boada told CultureMap via email.
Camilo Boada said the restaurant security footage shows that it took four men to lift the rooster and put it in the back of a pickup truck just after dinner service one night. A police report was not filed.
Loss of the statue means BRC is now the only restaurant in Houston with a giant red rooster marking the entrance. I guess when it comes to cocks, bigger really is better.
