Adam Dorris went from creating Ghetto Dinners to managing the kitchen at Stella Sola, and now he's taking his career and his cooking to new places.
Bryan Caswell has confirmed to CultureMap that Dorris will be leaving the Heights restaurant, but the parting seems to be amicable. Describing Dorris as "super-talented" and "awesome," Caswell said that he is helping to arrange stages (the chef version of internships) for Dorris in New York and other places, and that he is excited to watch Dorris "do his own thing."
The advance notice means that Stella Sola will be putting together some special dinners over the next month to celebrate some of Dorris's best dishes.
"Big thanks to the entire @StellaSola staff and especially to my awesome kitchen crew. This has been the best experience of my life," Dorris wrote on Twitter in announcing his departure.
It'll be interesting to see who takes the reins next, since Stella Sola has quite a track record of attracting young talent. Before Dorris's tenure, Justin Basye was named a James Beard semifinalist in Rising Star Chef of the Year for his work in the kitchen there. Caswell says that they currently don't have anyone in mind.
