Flamenco, wine and a mysterious menu: A new restaurant is coming to RiceMilitary
I've been wondering what the new restaurant on Shepherd Drive in the Rice Military neighborhood would be for a few weeks. Now, I have some answers.
The concept is called Solea Wine, Bar & Cafe (yes, the comma after wine is in the title), named after a form of flamenco music. Despite the Spanish tie-in, don't expect a simple tapas restaurant.
"It is a melting pot of culinary cuisines, as diverse as fried catfish or Natchitoches Meat Pies to skewered beef filets or French Dip and Onion Soup — complemented by some of the best wine vintages from around the globe," reads a press release which describes the restaurant as "where the infusion of Houston’s vibrant international, multicultural scene meets its Southern roots."
Co-owner Amin Safari is a molecular biologist turned full-time flamenco guitarist, so it seems natural that Solea will have a focus on live music "from fusion flamenco to blues and more."
Aside from the music and a global wine list, I'm still not really sure what Solea will be about — looks like we'll have to wait until the April opening to find out.
