Post New Year's Eve hangover cures: Coconut water is God's Gatorade
Last year we published a post-New Year's Eve hangover guide to help our celebratory readers navigate their way into a less-nauseous new year.
We crowed over House of Pies' hangover omelet, greasy goodness like kolaches and gravy biscuits, a well-made morning Michelada, swigs of Emetrol and even an intravenous solution. All of our tried-and-true methods work as well this year as they did last, but we discovered a few more as we were drinking our way through the year. Help us help you:
Coconut Water
Hailed as God's Gatorade, coconut water is the water extracted from coconut fruits that are too young to have formed milk. It's an incredible means of rehydration — it contains the same five electrolytes found in human blood — and if you can avoid the chunks, it's pretty easy to swallow.
Oolong Tea
Caffeine helps stave off the headache and the alcohol content — which varies from eight percent to 85 percent — gives your body what it's craving most: more booze. After all, a hangover is just withdrawal lite.
Vitamin B12
Hangover symptoms are caused, in part, by a deficiency in B12, so taking supplements helps to alleviate symptoms, obvs. Plus, if Madonna's into it, you know it's trendy healthy.
