The design event of the year: Your cheat sheet to Decorative Center Houston's Spring Market
Spring Market at the Decorative Center Houston (set for Wednesday) will fill the day with keynote speakers, showrooms displaying the latest in home furnishings and products, a sculpture exhibition and a Stars of Design and Stars on the Rise awards ceremony.
Moment of Luxury's Bill Stubbs moderates a dynamic panel discussion from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on "Building Your Brand." Also sharing their tips on distinguishing bands are Mary McDonald of Bravo's Million Dollar Decorator;Charles Pavarini III, founder and president of Charles Pavarini III Design Associates Inc.; and textiles designer John Robshaw.
Following the keynote address, Robshaw will be on hand to sign his new book, John Robshaw Prints, and McDonald welcomes guests for refreshments in the Schumacher showroom. Café La Villette by Mariquita Combes of La Villette Catering & Special Events gives the show a new dining experience. Located on the ground floor, Café La Villette will be open for lunch.
Several showrooms host open house programs throughout the day, including Brunschwig & Fils, Lee Jofa, Robert Allen/Beacon Hill and Pindler & Pindler, while others have allocated blocks of time to welcome visitors to view many of the newest lines for 2013.
The ground floor gallery serves as the backdrop for artist's Mac Whitney abstract, raw-steel sculptures recalling interweaving DNA or molecules in the exhibition. Linked Sculpture will remain on view at the center through August.
The celebration of design concludes with the Stars of Design and Stars on the Rise awards ceremony (from 5 to 7 p.m.) led by Charles S. Cohn, president and owner of Decorative Center Houston.
