Getting Lei'd on the Bayou: A swinging party at a lavish Memorial home
There simply could not be a prettier party setting than the Memorial area home of Clayton and Shel Erikson with its expansive lawns and bayou views. That was the thinking of Bayou Preservation Association gala chairs Susan Hansen, Vicki West and Nicole Zaar, who booked the swankienda for their "Lei'd on the Bayou" adventure.
Yes, that play on words meant a Hawaiian theme and that encouraged guests to dress in their best flowered shirts and sun dresses.
The lavish luau had guests licking their fingers, for who could resist the coconut fried shrimp, pulled pork tostadas or the slow-roasted pig?
Celebrating the island theme, guests were given flower leis on arrival and picked up their Mai Tais and other libations from cabana huts scattered across the party landscape. A Fare Extraordinaire was in charge of the lavish luau that had guests licking their fingers, for who could resist the coconut fried shrimp, pulled pork tostadas or the slow-roasted Hawaiian Kalua pig?
Entertainment included hula dancers, the steel guitar sounds of Herb Remington and a torch-thrower.
Getting their hula on were Colleen Holthouse, Dick Hansen, Jana and Scotty Arnoldy, David Zarr, Terry Hershey, Claire and John Caudill, Janet Cockrell, Anne Duncan, Elaine and Marvy Finger, Kathy Lord, Angie and John Reckling and Lynn and Ty Kelly.
