Society for the Performing Arts delivers a seductive crowd-pleaser with "UnaSera di Amore"
Society for the Performing Arts is all about entertainment and entertaining it was Saturday night when Mary Ann and David McKeithan chaired the SPA's romance-laced gala, "Una Sera di Amore" featuring the sounds of the Sicilian Tenors.
How sweet it was to hear the tenors' velvety voices floating through The Corinthian, that on this night was decorated in the esthetics of a Tuscan landscape complete with Tivoli lights strung from column to column. As a special treat for Margaret Williams, the evening's honoree, the trio serenaded her tableside.
It was high praise for decorations chair Vanessa Sendukas, who worked with party designer Rebekah Johnson to create the seductive Tuscan environment that included the region's signature lemon trees. And there was more praise for Jackson Hicks and his catering team that provided a rich Italian-inspired dinner.
With ticket sales and auction proceeds combined, the black-tie gala brought in more than $400,000. Applause, applause for auction chair Elizabeth Vail who rounded up a wealth of tempting items including the yummy necklace from Franco Valobra — a double strand of opera-length pearls interspersed with 46 carats of citrine stones.
Among those applauding the Sicilian Tenors and later dancing to the sounds of Skyrocket were SPA CEO and president June Christensen, SPA board chair Jim Postl and wife Beverly, Jim Daniel, Gini and Richard Mithoff, Randa and Charlie Williams, Denise and Philip Bahr, Mary Lynn and Ferdy Khater, Nancy and Chuck Davidson, Sue Trammel Whitfield and Melanie Gray and Mark Wawro.
