No ribbon for cutting at Texas Children's Pavilion for Women dedication, rathera garland of orchids
Just a few days before the first baby would be delivered at Texas Children's Hospital's spanking new Pavilion for Women, an impressive group of notables gathered to officially dedicate the $575 million state-of-the art center.
In a nod to the Pavilion's health care services for pregnant women, particularly those with high-risk pregnancies, this was no ordinary ribbon-cutting. In place of the typical flashy red ribbon, the entrance to the Pavilion was framed in a bountiful garland of pink and white orchids that was pulled away as the doors opened to launch a new era at Texas Children's Hospital as it expands into women's health with the new facility.
Taking center stage at the dedication of the facility was Texas Children's president and CEO Mark Wallace, Pavilion for Women OB/GYN-in-chief Dr. Michael Belfort and philanthropists Laura and John Arnold, who had provided a lead gift of $25 million for the building.
Close to 300 Texas Children's supporters turned out for the dedication and guided tours of the pavilion. Among them were Cynthia Petrello, Kay and Max Watson, Laura Robertson, Christine Morenz, Ron Hulme, Monica and Kevin King, Mary Martha and Joel Staff, Lois Stark, Beth Wolff, Laura Bellows and Shannon Wallace. Among the docs on hand were Texas Children's Surgeon-in-Chief Dr. Charles Fraser, Dr. Edward Yosowitz, Dr. Lucy Puryear and Dr. Marcia Katz.
