Locavore love: Anvil's unexpected flavors make GQ's guide to cocktails
Some things just go together, like gin and vermouth, scotch and soda or tequila and lime. Another duo that seems like it's going to be around for a while? Anvil Bar & Refuge and magazine adoration.
For the January 2012 issue, GQ compiled a guide to the best examples of the new cocktail culture, and of course Anvil merited a mention. But this list isn't just about Prohibition-era recipes — GQ distilled the modern cocktail programs into four categories: barrel-aged, local and seasonal, molecular and silver platter.
Despite the same old line about the former tire shop space, I actually liked that GQ focused on a different aspect of what Anvil does extremely well. It makes more sense than, say, the iridescent pink lipstick that Matt Damon is wearing on the cover.
