Chef musical chairs: Greg Lowry finds his Voice and it's no pastry
Could somebody get me a scorecard please? It’s getting tough to keep up with all the chef shuffling these days.
First Michael Kramer left Voice at the Hotel Icon, then The Rockwood Room folded, then Kramer signs on with The Tasting Room franchise and now chef Greg Lowry is in at Voice. That would be the former executive sous chef from The Rockwood Room.
As hotel chef, Lowry says: “My aim is to make Hotel Icon and Voice an integral part of this neighborhood, creating synergy with adjacent venues ranging from the classic like La Carafe to newer hotspots like Hearsay, all that have a look and feel that are unique to Houston.”
Hotel execs also say he’ll continue the transition of Voice into a hybrid restaurant and lounge.
Interestingly enough, Lowry is probably best known around these parts as a pastry chef, having done dessert duty at the Four Seasons Hotel and with Tony Vallone, who, by the way, just hired The Rockwood Room’s former chef/owner Michael Dei Maggi. Lowry also was the first executive sous chef at the Max’s Wine Dive in Austin, which is owned by the folks who own The Tasting Room. Which brings us back to where we started this story.
