We beliebe it
Are music videos squashing YouTube's viral magic, putting Bed Intruder on theendangered list?
It's been a Bieber — errr, banner — year for videos on YouTube.
The most popular (yet oddly unprofitable) video-sharing site recently launched its YouTube Rewind 2010: The Year in Review channel, featuring the 10 Most Watched Videos and the 10 Most Watched Music Videos.
Yes, there's a difference, and frankly, the distinction was necessary.
It seems the amateur talent that originally endeared the masses to YouTube was singlehandedly outclicked by the overabundance of professionally produced videos in 2010. And the Bieb cleaned up, with four of 10 songs belonging to the prepubescent sensation.
Let's be honest. There was just no way the Auto-Tune remix of Antoine Dodson's "Bed Intruder" outrage — the No. 1 Most Watched Video at over 49 million views — could ever compete with the unbeliebable 410 million hits Justin Bieber's "Baby" video racked up. Hence the separation of chutzpah and staged.
But we love the Google-owned video giant for drawing the line in the sand. YouTube deserves a round of applause for recognizing that even though we're the little people, we still make the viral videos go 'round. TAKE THAT, BIEB.
Were the top 10 as you expected? Have a gander at the lists below, and enlighten or enrage yourself accordingly.
