Justin Bieber Beergate
Justin Bieber's Houston strip club beergate night is overblown: TABC admits photo isn't enough
While Justin Bieber may have won the heart of a local stripper this weekend, the singer's rowdy Houston weekend is not sitting as well with state officials.
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is investigating the Washington Avenue area nightclub Nox, where the 19-year-old singer was spotted holding a Dos Equis at a party for champion boxer (and unlikely new pal) Floyd Mayweather. Gossip website TMZ posted an image of Bieber caught in the act.
The teen celeb — who can drink legally in his native Canada, of course — was not imbibing, according to the man who organized the Mayweather event.
"The whole time he had Fiji water because, that's what Floyd [Mayweather] drinks," says promoter Lil Keith.
"Floyd, he was already partying and Justin just popped up in the club and he just joined in with the party crowd," Houston club promoter Lil Keith tells KTRK Ch. 13, claiming that the image may have been Photoshopped.
"The whole time he had Fiji water because, that's what Floyd drinks too, because Floyd don't even drink alcohol. Actually, if there was alcohol in the area, it was from his friends."
TABC communications director Carolyn Beck tells CultureMap that an investigation is ongoing, but suggests that TMZ's unhealthy attachment to all things Bieber has blown the incident out of proportion.
"We did file a complaint . . . although, to be honest, just a photo is not enough evidence," Beck says, adding that any attorney would argue that there is no way of proving what was in the beer bottle. TMZ, she recalls, had little time to discuss the case's validity when it contacted the TABC.
In the meantime, Lil Keith has taken to Instagram to clear The Bieb's name with a video of the singer at Nox getting crunked with Mayweather on Fiji. Well worth the watch.
