Avoid Interstate 10
Bad movie scene come to life: Truck explosion snarls I-10 traffic
Whenever a car or truck crashes in a bad movie (often after going off a cliff), the vehicle inevitably explodes into a fierce fireball. The A-Team TV series from the 1980s seemed to feature three or four of these spontaneous vehicle explosions in every episode. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, everyone who's ever played James Bond made a career out of fleeing from these fiery wrecks at the last possible moment before everything blew sky high.
We were told time and time again that this only happens in the movies though.
Not if you live in Houston.
The town that's seen two bus-train collisions and a gigantic fuel truck tanker spill in the last six weeks alone, got a new traffic wrinkle today: The exploding truck.
After a crash on the Katy Freeway, an 18-wheeler caught fire and exploded, sending three giant fireballs into the sky. Fortunately, Fox Houston reports that the driver was able to get out in time and there are no other known injuries.
Traffic has hardly been unharmed though. All the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed at Taylor Street near Studemont and traffic has come to a virtual halt in both directions. The flames are out, but there's no word yet on when the freeway will regain any sense of normalcy.
The truck was actually traveling east when it slammed into the middle concrete barrier and its cab ended up hanging over the west side of the freeway.
