The Union of Concerned Scientists and Rice University faculty concerned about climate change will present a panel discussion on climate change and risk.

Texas, long the site of major oil and gas production and refining, is already experiencing significant, damaging effects of climate change. Two major U.S. fossil fuel companies, Chevron and ExxonMobil, will hold their annual shareholder meetings in Texas on May 31. Shareholders have submitted resolutions calling on management to report on climate-related risks, and to plan for reductions in carbon emissions to keep global temperatures increases to below 2°C.

Panel discussion topics will include the consequences of human-induced climate change on Texas frontline communities and the responsibility of major fossil fuel companies to plan for a low-carbon future.
