Tapes 'n Tapes wear their old school influences on their sleeves. (Any Pavement or Pixies fan will note obvious similarities.) But the band isn't ripping off the early '90s sound as much as embracing it. The thumping bass and drums of "In Houston" and the soft harmonies of "Omaha" invigorate classic indie rock rather than wear it out.
