Miller Outdoor Theatre kicks off the 2014 season with Philippines: Pearl of the Orient, a performance from Leyte Dance Theater. After 20 years of artistic pursuit, the Leyte Dance Theater can rightfully claim a place among the top dance companies in the Philippines. The acclaim and recognition, accrued through years of performances in major cultural centers in the country and abroad, are testimonies to the excellence it pursues in the field of dance.
The singular appeal of Leyte Dance Theater's performances lies in the dynamic infusion of western techniques on indigenous movements. The company defines itself by fusing ethno-folksy and mimetic actions, a distinctive style that is richly visual, emotionally stirring and truly riveting. Its theatrical identity is intense, flippant, pleasantly endearing and artistically awesome in its totality.
This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (four per person over age 16, while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. If tickets remain at 1 p.m., the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. Open seating on the hill is always available.
