This concert will feature the Houston debut of Sam Houston State University’s Early Music Ensemble at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, in a program of music for voices, instrumental ensemble, organ, and harpsichord by Henry Purcell. The group is led by Dr. Mario Aschauer, director of SHSU’s Center for Early Music Research and Performance.
Selections include the Funeral Music for Queen Mary II and other popular favorites such as “O Clap Your Hands Together, All Ye People,” along with more rarely performed jewels from Purcell’s rich sacred oeuvre.
