Apollo Chamber Players
"Bohemian Inception, American Inspiration" explores the inspirations of Czech composer Antonín Dvořák and the soundscapes of African-American spirituals. The program includes works by Florence Beatrice Price and Henry Thacker Burleigh, along with Dvořák's String Quintet in E-flat Major. Price's American Folksongs in Counterpoint, a rare, unpublished work on loan from the University of Arkansas, is spotlighted.
The program commences Apollo's long-range commissioning project, 20x2020, with a new composition for string quartet by internationally acclaimed American composer Libby Larsen.
