Beginning November 2011, the landscape of Lord of the Rings will be more accessible than ever with nonstop flights from Houston to Auckland.
The 7,400-mile route will be the longest flight departing from the airline's Houston hub, and Continental plans to operate it daily.
The expansion is a good sign for the Houston hub, which will be abandoned as Continental's headquarters once the merged Continental/United moves to Chicago.
Besides giving hope to Houston's industry and access to hunky hobbits abroad, the added flights are the first official route plans announced for a new Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. Continental has ordered 25 of the aircrafts, which have lower operating costs, are more environmentally sound (for a plane), and have flat-bed seats for long-distance flights.
Pending government approval, the first flight to New Zealand leaves Nov. 16, 2011.
