Mai's restaurant ablaze in two-alarm fire

A Midtown Vietnamese mainstay for over 30 years, Mai's restaurant became engulfed in smoke this morning as a two-alarm fire broke out in the building.

Information from the scene is scarce, though the thick black smoke pouring from the roof can be seen for blocks, billowing south as far as Highway 59. As soon as word leaked from click2Houston that a second station had been called in to battle the blaze, CultureMap heard reports that all firefighters were being pulled out of the building and that the structure would be allowed to collapse.

Fighters are currently battling the blaze from above via ladder extensions from one of the 5-6 firetrucks on the scene.

No injuries have been reported.

CultureMap is on the scene and will report more details as they become available.

Update: Part of the roof has collapsed.

Update #2: The entire roof has collapsed, the electricity has been cut to the block and the fire appears to be out, though it's still smoldering.

Update #3: The owner say she plans to rebuild.
