H-Town design world celebrates stars and up-and-comers at Decorative Center awards
Decorative Center Houston was on fire — in the best of ways during the 2015 Spring Market which happened to coincide with the prestigious center's 30th anniversary. More than 500 interior design enthusiasts and professionals set a record for the the gathering that featured world class design talent and the annual Stars of Design Awards presentation.
Key industry leaders making presentations throughout the day were Donghia CEO and Rubelli co-CEO Andrea Favaretto Rubelli in from home base in Venice, Italy, Traditional Home Magazine senior style editor Krissa Rossbund, TV design personality Nina Magon of Houston and New York photographer Durston Saylor.
Holly Hunt, a native Texan, was in from home base in Chicago to receive the Lifetime Achievement award and to celebrate the opening of her new showroom.
Decorative Center Houston president and owner Charles Cohen was in to preside over the early evening presentation of the Stars of Design Awards. Cohen heads New York-based Cohen Brothers Realty Corp., which owns 12 million square feet of commercial property in New York, Florida, California and Texas.
More than 100 turned out for the awards presentation honoring eight Stars of Design and four Stars on the Rise. Receiving kudos for a successful career in design Holly Hunt, a native Texan, was in from home base in Chicago to receive the Lifetime Achievement award and to celebrate the opening of her new showroom in the decorative center.
Stars of Design Award recipients were Shafik Rifaat for Architecture, Marcelyn McNeil for Art, Linda Limb for Graffic Design, Carol Glasser for Interior Design, Katy Briscoe for Product Design, Gary Moss for Landscape Design and Libbie Masterson for Photography.
Four young designers were presented with the Stars on the Rise awards — Kate Duckworth, Letecia Haywood, Nina Magon and Nicole Zarr.
This was the eighth year for the Stars of Design Awards presentation and the fourth year for Stars on the Rise. Following the presentation, guests gathered in the new Holly Hunt showroom for cocktails and conversation.
