Heels on wheels: Fashion trucks come together for parking lot party
Food trucks are a Houston staple, but fashion trucks? An increasing number of vehicles filled with stylish clothing are setting up shop all over town — just about anywhere there's a parking lot. Among the mobile entrepreneurs is Lillie Parks, owner of Park Boutique, who is organizing a "Shop and Chew Truck Block Party" Sunday (March 23) from 2-5 p.m.
A number of fashion trucks, including Park's mobile store, along with Urban Izzy, Punch Drunk Fashion Truck, Height of Vintage, Shoe Bar and The Coffey Shop — will be in the parking lot of Crave Sushi for a combined block party/shopping experience. A portion of sales will go to Mia's Closet, a non-profit organziation that provides clothing and hosts confidence-building events for underprivileged children.
For this week's KHOU CultureMap Moment, Channel 11 Morning News anchor Lillie Jang and I visited Park's truck and watched the entrepreneur in action. Before filming began, Park pulled out a generator, filled it with gas and started it by pulling a long lawnmower-type cord to get the lights in the truck on — all while wearing high heels!
(KHOU's Nakia Cooper came up the "Heels on Wheels" headline, which we can't resist borrowing because it's too good.)
