The crowd that poured into Meredith Long & Co. Tuesday night for the very first look at Mary Cassatt: Works on Paper enjoyed a connection of sorts to the artist's work.

Cornelia Long had selected the Blue Bird Circle to be honored with a private preview of the etchings, aquatints and pastels for their work with the Blue Bird Circle Clinic for Pediatric Neurology at Texas Children's Hospital, a dedicated group of women bettering health opportunities for the benefit of children.

As Martha Long, daughter of gallery owners Cornelia and Meredith Long explained, "Mother was looking for a connection  — women and children — that complimented the subjects of Cassatt's works." Thus, the Blue Birds.

Several of the 41 works were already sold and Carol and Mike Linn purchased one of the counterproofs that afternoon.

The exhibition opens to the public on Thursday with a reception at the San Felipe gallery from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m..
