There's no place like Houston for the holidays. In fact, in a festive new report, Houston unwraps the gift of being among the top 25 places in the country for celebrating Christmas.
To determine the best places for Christmas celebrations, WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities based on 33 metrics, such as Christmas events per capita, average price for a ticket to a Christmas party, and shopping centers and outlet malls per capita.
The personal finance website loaded all of that data into five carts: traditions and fun, holiday observance, generosity, shopping, and costs.
Overall, Houston comes in third in Texas and 23rd in the U.S. Houston ranks No. 7 out of 100 in the observance category, and it snags the No. 24 ranking for shopping and No. 27 ranking for traditions and fun. The city's two lower grades are in the costs (No. 66) and generosity (No. 70) groupings.
Elsewhere in Texas, Austin shines at No. 13, followed by Dallas at No. 18 and San Antonio at No. 25. Fort Worth falls to the middle at No. 49. On the naughty list are Garland, No. 93, and Laredo, No. 97.
Among the 100 largest cities, Atlanta shines as the star atop the Christmas tree with a No. 1 ranking.
