Forget the stuffy, formal lobbies of some luxury hotels. This renovated great room is meant to be used, lived in, and appreciated, filled with casual, natural furniture arrangements, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and nice views of the shopping mecca across the street. But of course, you can't hang out in the lobby all night, so the guests rooms are set with high-end bedding, flat screens, and a spacious, residential feel. We love the indoor/outdoor pool (we can't explain why it's so fun to swim under the dividing wall, but it is) and the spectacular views of the Galleria/Uptown skyscrapers. In its previous life, this hotel was an InterContinental. Shoppers note: It's almost directly across the street from Saks Fifth Avenue in the Galleria.
