Stateside at the Paramount
Until 2006, The State Theater was the premiere stage in Austin for seeing unbelievable contemporary theater from their highly-regarded repertory company. Unfortunately, after a massive water leak in the building's basement, the theater was rendered unusable and has yet to be returned to its former theatrical glory.
The space is still used for the State's acting classes, community movie screenings and other special occasions. The neon sign on Congress Avenue still lights up, and the lobby hints at the theater's heyday with its plush crimson curtains and gold tassles.
