What other organization in Houston could bring in such a consistent roster of talent, including recent shows by famed performance artist Laurie Anderson, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, The Chieftains, Compañia Flamenco José Porcel, DrumLine Live (which brings the African-American marching band tradition to the theatrical stage for the first time), Patti LaBelle, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, bestselling humorist David Sedaris and The Song and Dance Ensemble of West Africa, and hipster-beloved New Zealand comedy-folk duo Flight of the Conchords? For over four decades, this nonprofit has been committed to bringing the best and most diverse cultural performances to town and giving Houstonians a non-stop selection of classical, edgy and some impossible-to-define productions. Performances are almost always at Jones Hall, which puts you close to some of Houston’s best restaurants and clubs.
