The site of the present day Paramount Theatre was formerly the home of the offices of Sam Houston's War Department of the Republic of Texas. Hundreds of years later, it is now the grandest performance space for Austinites to catch the biggest names in entertainment. Live music, classic movies, mainstage plays and literary readings all commonly take place on the stage of this opulent, four-tiered theatre, and audiences are lined up nightly along Congress underneath the brilliant old-fashioned marquee. The lobby is dark and classically carpeted, the seats small but plush.

Be quick on the draw ordering tickets online, and you can avoid the surprisingly high balcony which is usually the same price as the tier below. Floor seats all the way on the edges are blocked by the support columns so try to avoid those as well. Parking downtown is never easy once the sun goes down, so find a nearby garage and grab a bite at one of the fantastic restaurants along Congress before the show.
