The Sharpstown Civic Association presents Americana Festival and Fireworks, an event that will start with a bicycle parade led by Houston Police Midwest Command’s bike patrol unit around the perimeter of the Mall, with a swing through The Clarewood House Retirement Community’s circular drive, leading participants back to the southeast corner of the parking lot where the stage and vendor booths await.

Organizers are negotiating with Mayor Sylvester Turner to see if he will also ride a bicycle and help marshal attendees to the stage. Food merchants from the Mall will sell their specialties in the parking lot. The young men and women of HPD Midwest Explorers will sell drinks; while an array of arts and crafts booths will showcase their unique wares.

Entertainment from stilt characters, tai chi performance, and The Gary Dahl Band will pump up the festive atmosphere. In the evening, visitors will settle down in their lawn chairs and on blankets to join in a patriotic sing-a-long (led by the Schiller Institute Sharpstown Choir) celebrating our Nation’s founding, and then, at dark, watch a professional fireworks show to wish America an early Happy Birthday.
