The first Jewish deli to open on New York’s Broadway did so in 1927 when a recent immigrant from Budapest named Max Gruber joined with brothers-in-law Morris and Izzy Rappaport to open The Rialto Delicatessen next door to the famed Rialto movie house.
Now, 90 years after that first deli opened, Max’s very own grandson, Ziggy Gruber of Kenny & Ziggy’s New York Delicatessen Restaurant, is saluting the deli that began it all with a special movie night featuring a three-course dinner, snacks and a showing of the Marx Brothers’ 1930 film, Animal Crackers.
Movie Night in the Schmooze Room tickets include dinner, snacks and the movie, plus tax and gratuity. Wine and beer is available for an additional cost. Reservations must be made by Monday, May 8.
