Stylish Houstonians stand as allies in global fight against AIDS

The scoop: Houstonians gathered for a worthy cause asAIDS Foundation Houston, Inc. (AFH) hosted the annual World AIDS Day Luncheon at The Ballroom at Bayou Place. Luncheon chairs Carrie Brandsberg-Dahl, Adrian Dueñas, and Duyen Nguyen, together with presenting sponsor Chevron, welcomed more than 500 guests to the annual fundraiser.
The crowd enjoyed remarks from Chevron’s Angel Rua, AFH executive director John Huckaby, Mayor Sylvester Turner, and AFH board member Kyle Pierce. PaperCity’s Shelby Hodge presented the Shelby Hodge Vision Award to Bruce Richman, executive director of Prevention Access Campaign’s Undetectable=Untransmittable (U=U) movement.
The award presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session with Project Runway All Stars winner, Under The Gunn mentor, and HIV/AIDS awareness advocate Mondo Guerra and Ernie Manouse, Houston Public Media host and producer. In a touching exchange, Guerra shared his personal story and his vision for the future and called on all present to be allies in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The organization’s largest fundraising event of the year, this year’s World AIDS Day Luncheon raised more than $150,000 to support AFH in its mission to prevent new transmissions and provide housing and supportive services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
