Procrastinator's Guide to Thanksgiving Dining: 7 new menus to feast on this Turkey Day

If your plans are still coming together for your Thanksgiving feast, we’ve got you covered. Make it a holiday to remember, and with no dishes to wash, at the seven options below. All are either new restaurants or old favorites who have joined in the Thanksgiving Day dining game this year for the first time.

Sud Italia

Cozy Rice Village eatery Sud Italia will present plenty of coastal Italian cuisine, as well as more traditional fare, such as carved turkey breast with dressing, grilled asparagus, baby carrots and candied yams (11 am - 9:00 pm; $39.50 per person). For dessert, options include pecan and pumpkin pie.

Del Frisco’s Grille - The Woodlands

Classics are the focus of the three-course prix fixe dinner at The Woodlands outpost of Del Frisco’s Grille, an offshoot of sister spot Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House (12 - 8 pm). Along with hand-carved turkey, the lavish meal ($39 per person) comes with starter, butternut squash bisque, two sides (roasted garlic mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, creamed spinach, shaved Brussels sprouts) and a dessert (pumpkin pie, butterscotch pudding, pecan pie). Note: Del Frisco’s at West Ave will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Genesis Steakhouse and Wine Bar

Spend the holiday at the Kosher steakhouse in Bellaire, where they’re plating up T-Day favorites (11 am – 5 pm). Along with turkey, choose from sides like green bean casserole and candied yams ($42 per person; $28 for children 12 and under). You can also order al a carte from the regular menu.

Table on Post Oak

Load up on turkey at Table on Post Oak. The posh restaurant on Post Oak Blvd. has a new French concept, and Thanksgiving Day deal (11 am – 8 pm) featuring oven-roasted bird with madeira (brown) gravy, chestnut wild mushroom stuffing, potato purée, bourbon pecan pie a la mode and the like ($70 per adult; $35 for children under 12). Bonus: Score a front row seat to the Uptown tree lighting festivities at 4 - 7 pm.

Holley's Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Bar

Midtown spot Holley’s presents a three-course prix fixe deal ($60 per adult; $30 per child) chock full of Southern favorites from fried quail with a sweet potato waffle and Thai-style fried snapper for two to turkey served with sweet potato soufflé, collard greens, oyster-cornbread stuffing, mac n’ cheese and more (11 am - 6 pm). We recommend the coconut cake with spiced pecans and salted caramel sauce for dessert.

Fogo de Chão

It's a Brazilian Thanksgiving at Fogo de Chão. The steakhouse chain shares the Brazilian gaucho traditions of churrasco (the art of roasting meats over an open fire), a standout salad bar and a list of Thanksgiving items including roasted turkey, sage and apple dressing with Brazilian sausage and sweet potato casserole (Westheimer locale: 11 am – 9 pm; $34.95 per person at lunch and $51.95 per person at dinner. The Woodlands: 11:00 am - 9:00 pm; $32.95 per person at lunch; $49.95 per person at dinner).

B&B Butchers & Restaurant

Celebrate at the joint restaurant-butcher shop on Washington Ave. with offerings from the regular menu, as well as a prix fixe menu (from 11 am - 2pm; and again from 4-7pm). Guests will have the choice of one starter, one entree and one dessert, served with an amuse bouche of cantaloupe with smoked duck and balsamic vinegar and a trio of traditional side items from Brussels sprouts to cranberry sauce ($55 per adult; $20 per child 12 and under).

Expect first choice options to range from butternut squash soup to a mixed green salad while meaty mains include roasted prime rib or roasted turkey. Save room for pumpkin pie, apple crisp or pecan pie for dessert. Get into the spirit with specialty cocktail, the Mayflower ($14), a mix of apple whiskey, almond-flavored Italian liqueur, Italian bitter liqueur, lemon juice, aromatic bitters and black walnut bitters.

Bun B serves up smash hit smash burgers at Houston's Rice University

Bun B is bringing Trill Burgers to Rice University.

Faculty, students, and staff at Rice University will have a fresh new dining option when classes resume for the fall semester. Trill Burgers will open its fourth Houston-area location on campus beginning Monday, August 17.

Located at the Rice Memorial Center, the new Trill Burgers will serve the restaurant’s signature smash burgers, which are available in either beef or vegan versions. That starts with the OG Trill Burger, made with two smashed beef patties, pickles, caramelized onions, Trill Sauce, and American cheese on a Martin’s potato roll. A vegan version uses plant-based smashed patties, vegan sauce, and vegan cheese. Burgers will be sold individually or as a combo with fries and a drink. Students will be able to use their campus dining dollars (Tetra) to purchase their meals.

Bun B, a Houston hip-hop legend and co-founder of Trill Burgers, has long had ties to Rice University. In 2011, 2013, and 2015, he served as a distinguished lecturer, co-teaching Religion and Hip-Hop Culture with Anthony Pinn, the Agnes Cullen Arnold Distinguished Professor of the Humanities.

“This is truly full circle for me,” Bun B said in a statement. “To bring this brand to Rice University where I once taught is a major moment for Trill Burgers and for myself.”

In addition to Trill Burgers, Rice is also home to locations of breakfast favorite Dandelion Cafe and salad and sandwich concept Local Foods Market.

“We are excited to build upon this long-standing relationship while giving the Rice community an authentic taste of Houston,” Beth Leaver, Rice’s assistant vice president of housing, dining, and hospitality, added. “Trill Burgers brings a distinctive and celebrated part of Houston’s culinary culture to the Rice campus. I am often asked about adding a great burger option, and this partnership fills an important gap in our dining portfolio.”

While the restaurant is open to the general public, its proximity to the original Trill Burgers location (3607 S. Shepherd Dr.) means it will likely appeal primarily to people who are already on campus. Initially, the restaurant will be open from 11 am-5 pm.

Opening at Rice comes at a time of continued growth for Trill Burgers. In December, the restaurant opened in Missouri City. It is expected to open a new location at Westheimer and Hillcroft (7616 Westheimer Rd.) as soon as this month.
