Why everyone will soon be clamoring to live in Houston's Midtown

    CultureMap Create
    Nov 20, 2019 | 11:00 am

Right outside downtown Houston lies Midtown, one of the city's hottest neighborhoods. With a bevy of bars, restaurants, retail, and entertainment, as well as plenty of parks and free community events, the area is a vibrant, cosmopolitan part of town.

It's also where you'll find Drewery Place, the sleek new high-rise from Australian developer Caydon. Packed with such perks as European-inspired design, a yoga studio, private dog park, and Houston's largest pool deck, the apartment homes exemplify urban living.

But first and foremost is Drewery Place's unique status as the first residential tower in Midtown. Read on to discover why you'll want to be among the first to move to this bustling neighborhood.

    Walk and ride
Talk about accessibility: Midtown is just five minutes from all major freeways and main roads. But being so close to downtown, Montrose, and other key areas means you can ditch the car and embrace Midtown's walkable lifestyle. The area has a Walk Score of 86, the highest in all of Houston. It also boasts Houston's second-highest transit score with the METRORail Red Line connecting residents to the city's two largest employment centers: downtown and the Texas Medical Center.

Speaking of METRORail, it's easy to acknowledge Midtown's light rail transport system as one of the main draws. The McGowen METRORail stop is right across the road, making for an easy commute. And just think about how nice it would be not to have to deal with traffic when heading to the Houston Rodeo or a Texans game at NRG Stadium.

    Love the nightlife
Any night of the week you can find crowds of young professionals, tourists, and locals enjoying themselves at one of Midtown's many eclectic bars. The clubs attract world-renowned DJs, and you can count on special weekly attractions like game watches, bingo events, trivia, and steak nights.

Midtown is also arguably the cultural hub of Houston, with free museums, abundant theaters, and eccentric boutiques around every corner. The Ensemble Theatre gives voice to the African-American community, while the Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston (MATCH) is a contemporary community arts venue housing multiple spaces for theater, dance, music, and gallery shows.

    Chow down
With more than 200 restaurants, bars, beer gardens, and coffee shops, you're never short of good dining options in Midtown. In fact, it's one of Houston's most diverse food destinations, with cuisine hailing from all over the globe. With prices and ambience covering the full spectrum, from the low-key to the refined, there's something to satisfy everyone's taste and budget. There's even a restaurant inside Drewery Place: Kanau Sushi, from revered chef Mike Lim.

Prefer to cook? Visiting the Saturday markets at Elizabeth Baldwin Park is a mainstay of Midtown life. Here, you can browse from a curated selection of produce and prepared foods from Houston's best farmers, bakers, and chefs. The goodies come from local farms and vendors, and mean that Midtown residents can shop for farm-fresh food without ever leaving their neighborhood. Whole Foods also just recently came to Midtown, with the grocery store having opened at the beginning of November.

    Enjoy the outdoors
Get in touch with nature at the newly established Midtown Park, which hosts several free events like Yappy Hour at the Puppy Park, where Midtown's four-legged residents can meet some new pals. Parking is conveniently located underneath the park and costs only $1 per hour or $5 per day. Also close by are the popular Buffalo Bayou trails, as well as some smaller neighborhood parks where residents can exercise, socialize, or find a quiet corner to themselves.

Like to keep your social calendar full? There's always something going on in Midtown, and many events are free. From national holidays to just an excuse to mingle, there are multiple opportunities for residents to get out and about, meet their neighbors, get fit, and learn new skills. And with all the parks and outdoor spaces, your fur babies will benefit, too.

    Looking to the future
Drewery Place may be the first, but there are currently 2,600 residential units under construction or expected to break ground in 2019. All these new commercial and residential developments are designed to accommodate a massive influx of people and demonstrate how in-demand the area is becoming. Along with Whole Foods, which often signals positive growth for an area, Midtown is already well stocked with a variety of services — there are multiple nail and hair salons, dry cleaners, pharmacies, gas stations, and more within close proximity.

If Midtown sounds like your next move, contact your Caydon leasing professional for more info on Drewery Place.

There's a private dog park just for residents, but your four-legged friend will also enjoy all the nearby parks.
