Fab Home Up for Auction
Theresa Roemer's Carlton Woods mansion hits auction block, you won't believe starting price
When Theresa and Lamar Roemer's 17,300 square foot mansion goes under the gavel on July 30, only qualified buyers will be allowed to bid. The starting point — $5 million. Clearly, this is not your ordinary on-the-courthouse-steps house auction.
The Roemers put their home, with her much-ballyhooed 3,000 square foot closet, on the market for $12. 9 million in December of 2014. With apparently no compelling offers, the Roemers turned to Platinum Luxury Auctions. The international auction house specializing in non-distressed, mega properties had success with another Carlton Woods home in February. The 30,000 square foot DanMar mansion sold for $7.1 million, and, according to the auction house, thereby setting The Woodlands’ all-time residential resale price.
The company's focus is on affluent owners whose properties are introduced to the firm's stable of high net-worth-buyers.
Last December, Theresa Roemer told CultureMap, "We bought the house as an investment and always said that we would fix it up and put it up for sale . . . If it sells, we will make a crapload of money. If not, we can live happily ever after here."
Happily ever after, according to the auction house, meant loving that mega closet, but alas Ms. Roemer has outgrown it. Roemer apparently wants to build an even bigger closet, doubling the size of the current 3,000-square-foot party space. So the Roemers have scheduled their mansion for auction on July 30 to expedite the sale.
