This week's KHOU CultureMap Moment focuses on the Bayou City Art Festival, consistently ranked one of the Top 10 art festivals in the nation.
Art lovers wait all year for the event, where you can not only find incredible pieces of art, but also meet the artists themselves.
"Every piece of art has a story and every artist has a story," says Joel Luks, CultureMap's resident arts expert. "What's more impressive about a festival like this is that you're able to talk to the artist and get the inspiration behind the pieces."
"As far as making a living from art, Houston's a great place for it and I think it's only becoming a better place," Slaughter adds.
"I want a lot of emotions to come from the work because a lot of emotions go into the work," Slaughter says.
Organizers expect 40,000 people to visit Memorial Park for the three-day festival. "You're nonstop talking to new people," says Slaughter. "I've picked up probably 15 to 20 new collectors in the last couple of years."
"It's one of my favorite events of the year," Luks says. "About 450 artists and 19 different genres, just giving you an overview of really the best of what this country has to offer."

The festival will feature 20 food trucks and 10 beverage stands — as well as some beautiful weather this weekend. It runs Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. General admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children between 3 and 12 years old (children under 3 are admitted free).
