About the area
The Crestwood/Glen Cove community was first developed in the 1940s, with Crestwood rising from the former site of Camp Logan, a World War I-era army training camp. A few chunks of concrete and building foundations left over from camp facilities still remain in the heavily forested park.
Crestwood is in close proximity to Bayou Bend, River Oaks and Avalon Place and is within a five-minute drive to downtown and to The Galleria. Some houses in the neighborhood are adjacent to the Hogg Bird Sanctuary Park. Residents enjoy 1,508-acre Memorial Park, with its municipal golf course, walking, jogging, hiking and biking trails, picnic grounds, tennis courts and more.
Walk through
Located on the always-desirable corner lot, this jewel of a home at 426 W. Cowan Drive is of steel frame construction with stucco exterior designed by Preston Wood & Associates. Owners enter to lofty ceilings, two-story, floor-to-ceiling windows, some with curved panel glass, and a massive brick fireplace. A halo of track lighting hangs from above in the grand room.
A gourmet chef's kitchen half-circles the living area. The dining room lies just beyond an open bar that is connected to the cook's paradise and convenient to the great room. A guest bedroom with en suite bath is tucked in a private setting, a simple solution for residents preferring a first-floor retreat.
The spiraling staircase takes owners and guests to the second level, where the landing opens to an office and library. Beyond is the spacious master bedroom, which includes access to a private terrace. The master bath is highlighted by his-and-her vessel sinks, large jet tub and oversized frameless shower. In total, the house boasts four bedrooms and four full and one half-baths.
Winding up the stairs to the third floor, owners and guests find a tree house-like space with views in every direction. From this area, which is now designated as a gaming center and entertainment space, exit outside to a huge balcony affording vistas of downtown Houston. The house is equipped with an elevator.
Step outside
In addition to three generously sized terraces, the house offers even more outdoor scenery with a patio kitchen and dining area for al fresco festivities. The lush landscaping invites owners and guests to take a dip in the secluded backyard pool. A detached two-car garage brings additional space on the second floor for office and/or living quarters.
