Wackiest party ever? Live fish hat takes the cake at zany Mad Hatters bash
Even the most serious of causes can afford a little levity. Just ask supporters of the Human Rights Campaign, who stepped out in the most outrageous hats imaginable for the "Alice's Adventures in Quality" gathering.
HRC supporters Michael and Matthew Burrus-Pearce dreamed up the wacky theme, for which they brought in the Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter. We're not sure who was more delighted the Burrus-Pearce's 3-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son or the grown-ups who fully embraced the request for mad hats.
In the contest of who could be the most outrageous, Alex Blair and Rene Garza were finalist, second only to Tim Kirwin, whose trés clever top hat containing an illuminated live fish in a fish bowl took first prize. After the party, fish "Bob Barker" was happily and healthily returned to his aquarium.
Point of the gathering was to entice table hosts for the April 11 fundraising gala at the Westin Galleria for the Human Rights Campaign-Houston. Amid all the hat hoopla, gala chairs Britt Kornmann, Elisa Sosa and Rodney Morris announced that country music star Ty Herndon would headline the entertainment.
Joining in the zany frolic were Vivian Wise and Sergio Morales, Jon Halbur, Debbie Pakzaban, Mike Holloman and Tim Surratt and daughter Nora, Christine Mills, Chau Nguyen, JMichael Soliz, Tony Shelton and Ross Smith, Tracy Faulkner, Erin Rosemond Spencer, Christine Habash Johnson, Scott French, Ryan Levy and Ian Eastveld.
